We prefer that you do not send any devices with your camper. Our program is designed to immerse children into the camp environment and dynamics of the group experience. The use of camper cellular phones or other electronic devices may be disruptive to maintaining this atmosphere. In the event of an emergency, it is the responsibility for the staff to maintain contact with the Starland office and the parents of the camper.
Please contact Starland at your earliest convenience, preferably the evening before. We can then relay such messages to the staff each morning.
In the morning, staff members are instructed to wait no more than minutes past the drop off time. If you do not arrive within 5 minutes, you must drop your child off directly at the activity site for the day. In the afternoon, we stay with all children until each parent or guardian arrives. Parents have historically been courteous and timely to avoid holding Starland staff members late. After care is available at an additional fee for those that are not able to make it at the scheduled pick up time.
Our camps run in all weather conditions. Starland reserves the right to make changes to the scheduled itinerary as necessary to ensure the safety of our campers, and refunds will not be provided for activities that are altered or replaced due to inclement weather.
It is common to see campers sign up as a part of a group of friends, and every effort is made to keep these campers in the same group. It is also very common to see groups of campers that are all meeting each other for the first time, as Starland is a great place to meet new people and make new friends.
Our staff must be over the age of 21 years old in order to drive the Starland van. Additional counselors may be 16 and older. All staff are subject to pre-employment reference and background checks. Camp staff are selected based on their skills in leadership and a high degree of commitment to working with youth. Each Starland camp is led by a camp director, typically Starland staff, teachers or college students studying education or a related field.
Participants are transported in 15 passenger Starland vans. All of our drivers are screened and must be approved by our insurance company. All Starland drivers participate in our staff training. Starland performs background checks and driving record checks on all camp drivers.
